(upbeat intro music)
Hey, and welcome to CS First Social Media.
I'm Aaron, and I will lead you through
a computer science exploration
over the next eight days of this club.
Today, you'll learn what computer science is,
see the programs, stories and games
you'll create in this club,
and finally, make your very first
computer program in Google CS First Social Media.
CS First Social Media is a computer science club.
Computer science, or CS, uses computers
to make amazing projects, also called programs,
that allow people to play, entertain themselves and others,
solve problems, do work and save time.
You'll learn all the different ways computer science
relates to things you do and see everyday.
You might be surprised.
The projects you will build will all relate to social media.
Social media websites allow users to interact,
create, share ideas and exchange information.
Some popular examples of social media sites are
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The computer science concepts you will learn
in this club are the same concepts used
to create these popular websites and applications.
Computer science allows people to build
a variety of projects and solve many types of problems.
Some examples include using computers
to study concussions in football players,
or designing an app that lets users sell
their homemade goods over the internet.
Over the next eight sessions, you'll discover some
incredible creations people build
and problems people solve using computer science.
You will also learn how to use computer science
to create your own social media projects and applications.
You will leave with a portfolio of your own projects,
and a basic understanding of computer science concepts.
Take a look at these social media projects
that you'll get to build over the next eight club sessions.
