Hello and welcome to CS First Art! Over the next eight days of this club, you’ll getto create some cool art projects while you explore exciting computer science concepts.
Today, you’ll learn what computer science is, preview the art projects you’ll makein this club, and finally, get to create your very first computer program in this CS Firstclub! CS First Art is a computer science club. Computerscience uses computers to make amazing projects (also called programs) that allow people toplay, entertain themselves and others, solve problems, do work, and save time. In thisclub, you'll learn many different ways computer science relates to things you do and see everyday--you might be surprised! In this club, the projects you will buildinvolve creating art. However, people use computer science to build all kinds of projectsand solve many types of problems, from communicating between friends to finding cures for diseases.
Over the next 8 club sessions, you’ll be introduced to some of the incredible creationspeople build and problems people solve using computer science. You will also learn howto use computer science to create your own art. When this club ends, you will have aportfolio of your own art creations, and will have developed a basic understanding of manycomputer science concepts. Take a look at these projects that you’llhave a chance to build over the next 8 club sessions.
Today, you’ll get a chance to explore the tool you’ll use to create your art, Scratch,and you’ll create your first computer program in this club.
Once you finish watching this video, open today’s starter project in Scratch in anew browser tab by clicking the link next to this video.
Click the orange “remix” button in the top right of the screen. Then, sign in toScratch using the username and password from your CS First club pass. Remember to alwayssign in to Scratch before you start working, so your projects will be saved.
Once you’ve done this, click the CS First tab to return to this page, then click thegreen arrow under this video to move on to the next step.
