Congratulations on building your fashion poll. When your fellow club members took your poll, you got some valuable insight into their preferences. Fashion designers gather that type of informationall the time through market research, and use it to create designs that will appealto their customers’ tastes. Today, you used variables to store the votecount in your poll. Variables are one of the most commonly used concepts in computer science.
If you take computer science classes in the future, you will definitely use variablesagain.
Today was also your first time in this club creating an application designed to collectdata from users. There are many real-world applications for gathering data. For example, scientists use data to discover new causes of disease. Retailers use data to understandthe buying habits of customers. Governments use data about traffic patterns and electricityusage to make cities run more smoothly. Data is just another word for “information.”
The more information you have, the better your knowledge and understanding of the world.
Take a look at this clip about wearable computers that collect sports performance data.
Now that you’ve gotten an idea of your club members’ preferences, maybe you feel inspiredto go create something based on them. Remember that you can continue using your Scratch accountto create projects from any computer with an internet connection, even after this clubends. In the next club session, you will build afashion window display while learning how to clone sprites. While you’re waiting foryour clubmates to finish the wrap-up, take a moment to write a shout-out to one of yourGurus or someone who helped you today. Until next time, have fun creating and coding!
