In this video, you will add two characters to your project, who will talk to each other
to create your P-S-A.
You can pause the video to add to your project, or you can watch the entire video, then complete
To start program the dialogue between your two sprites.
Choose a character to speak, and select the Looks menu.
Click, hold, and drag out a few “say for 2 seconds” blocks.
When you click the block stack, the sprite says “Hello!”
Change the text to start your PSA.
What does your character say first?
Maybe it’s a question, like “Did you know that many animal species are endangered?”
Or a fact, like “The plastic in the ocean hurts animals like sea turtles.”
Next, program the other character to respond by adding “say” blocks.
Think about your second character’s personality.
How will they continue the conversation to build your PSA?.
Maybe they add facts, ask a question, or tell the audience to “act now!”
To make your PSA start when the flag is clicked, select the events menu… and add a “when
flag clicked” block to the top of the block stack.
Do this for both characters.
The ‘when flag clicked’ event allows you to start or run the code without clicking
the block stack each time.
This allows multiple characters and objects to perform actions at the same time, or without
having to click on each sprite’s block stack. Test this.
Both characters talk at the same time.
The second character needs to wait before responding.
From the control menu, add a “wait” block and put it above the “say” blocks.
Change the value to “6 seconds” because the first character talks for 2..4...6 seconds.
Sequence additional “say” and “wait” blocks in your project.
If your characters’ phrases vary in length, edit the values in the “say” blocks to
give them the right amount of time to speak.
You might have a bug in your program, like this.
Change the wait blocks to reflect the seconds value of the other character.
Test your code often to see if your PSA is working the way you want it!
