Add more sprites to your project to say different phrases to help your audience care about your
PSA and decide to do something.
You will use code to make the phrases your sprites say unpredictable and different for each person who interacts with your PSA!
Start by selecting or adding a new sprite to your project.
Next, create a list of phrases from the Variables menu.
This list is called an array, which is a way to hold multiple items from a list, like numbers, names, or phrases.
Add phrases that support your PSA. You might share facts,
ask questions, or motivate and inspire your audience.
Add 4 or more items to your list.
Program the sprite to say the phrases from the list using a “say” block.
Add an “item of” block inside the “say” block.
When you test this block, it says the first item from the list!
When the number is two, the sprite says the second item on the list.
The same for 3 and 4…
To make the sprite say phrases randomly instead of going down the list in order,
use a “pick random” block from the operators menu.
In this example there are 4 items in this list, so the block picks an item number from 1 to 4 items.
Hide the list by clicking the “hide list” block, and test this out.
Great. Finally, make one sprite in your project start this code with a broadcast block.
Broadcasting sends signals about the code from one sprite to another.
Select the sprite that speaks last,
and add a “broadcast” block to the end of its block stack.
Select “new message.”
Name it something that describes what the code will do.
To tell the sprite to receive this message and say a phrase, add a “when I receive” block to the top of its block stack.
Make sure the message matches the name in the “broadcast” block.
Test this out.
Make two characters talk to one another about the issue you’ve chosen.
Program confetti, snow, hearts, or other objects to fall from the sky.
Program the main character to come on the stage with an animated motion effect.
Program supporters to say supportive phrases from a list about your issue.
Make your character talk about the topic you’ve chosen.
Change the animation scenery by adding more backdrops.
Choose or record sounds to accompany your project.
Add or draw more characters who support your cause.
Make your primary or secondary characters move to emphasize points in your story.
Ask the audience a question and make something happen based on the response.
Create a title for your passion project so the audience can know what it’s about.
Animate your characters by making them change costumes.
Make your own beat, or record your own voice.
Share your message with audiences who speak other languages.
